Zippie® IRIS™ Children's Wheelchair

Wheelchair Description:

Following the extremely successful Quickie IRIS, Quickie is proud to introduce the new Zippie® IRIS. The Zippie IRIS uses the revolutionary Quickie IRIS rotation-in-space design and downsizes it to fit the pediatric user.

This new design features a smaller rotational arc to better match a pediatric user's center of gravity, a smaller base-frame, smaller bolts, smaller fasteners, smaller tubing, etc. The result: an astoundingly lightweight, low to the ground pediatric rotation-in-space wheelchair.

The Zippie IRIS was designed with an optional abduction (flared) frame that provides additional lateral space for tight knee angles. The extensions, or "abduction frame options", add 1.5" (.75" per side) to the overall caster width.
A transit option is available for 150 lb. user weight-limits. For many pediatric users transferring is difficult and vehicle seating does not provide the postural support they require. By offering a transit option, these users can avoid the problems associated with transferring in and out of their chairs during transportation.
Aligning the user's center of gravity with chair's center-of-rotation is not just a matter of having the correct rotational arc. It also involves possibly making adjustments to the horizontal position of the user's center of gravity relative to the center of rotation. By providing both a sliding backrest and an adjustable hanger-receiver, the Zippie IRIS adjusts to many different user sizes and seating positions. Without such fine tuned adjustment, the advantage of a rotation-in-space chair is lost.
A primary definition of a pediatric chair is one that accommodates a smaller body. This is why the Zippie IRIS features the ultra small 10" & 11" seat width, and 10" & 11" seat depth.
The Zippie IRIS features a newly designed angle-adjustable backrest bracket. This new bracket design features 5° anterior to 30° posterior backrest range in 5° increments. It does this by using a slim new shape that economizes space while providing pin-point adjustment.
Pediatric wheelchairs are frequently required to fit in tight spaces. This is why the Zippie IRIS features a newly designed adjustable axle-plate. This new design provides ½" of wheel-width adjustment, particularly helpful when a narrower wheel-base is necessary fit the chair into a tight space.
The new Zippie Iris features a 13" front seat-to-floor height. Using a drop seat, this distance can be lowered to as low as 11" seat-to-floor height.
