  • I am a:Long Term Wheelchair User
  • Chair Pro's:Good seat, goe anywhere,, manoverable, still reliable after 4 years.
  • Chair Con's:V/poor range, rough ride.
  • Best Used:Indoors and Outdoors
  • Recommend It:I would recommend this wheelchair

Very disapointed that the range, does not come anywhere near what Pride say, I am lucky to get 8 to 9 miles on new batteries.

After you find the right suspension setting you dont get stranded with front and back castors leaving the drive wheels off the ground. Ramps can be a bit tricky but if it is approached with a bit of pace the drive wheels do not loose traction (needs practice) not easy to get into taxis because of steep ramp and its size, Ok on trains and busses, a bit big for indoors but manageable.

Front and rear castor bearings give up but can be replaced with rollerskate bearings. Pride replacement castors are not the same as the original and are better. I have only given the 6000, 2 stars because of its range and rough ride

  • I am a:Long Term Wheelchair User
  • Chair Pro's:Comfortable. Maneuvers okay. Six-speed not bad.
  • Chair Con's:Constant repairs. Rough ride. Short distance capability. Slight forward motion when joystick stopped.
  • Best Used:Indoors and Outdoors
  • Recommend It:I wouldn't recommend this wheelchair

To start, compared to the electric chair I previously had, this one is much better. With that said, it does not mean this is a great chair (see pro's & con's). The biggest complaint I have is the constant repairs I pay out for this chair. It seems about every 5 months I am having to replace something. And never inexpensive parts. It is definitely not a comfortable ride. And it is noisy - because of all the creaks & groans each part seems to make. It does maneuver okay in tight spaces. I do not have a problem with it getting in to buses or on to ramps.

  • I am a:Long Term Wheelchair User
  • Chair Pro's:Brilliant indoors but, really, it's too much chair just for indoor use, unless it's a lot cheaper in the US than in the UK
  • Chair Con's:Very poor outdoors, unless you live where it never rains. And I mean never
  • Best Used:Indoors
  • Recommend It:I wouldn't recommend this wheelchair

In the UK, this is a Class 3 road-legal machine (when fitted with the optional high-speed pack and lights/indicators), yet it must not be used in wet weather, according to the manual. That means, for 5 days out of 7, most weeks (I kept a rain diary for several months), I daren't go out as in all probability, it will rain (I live on the coast - my weather may not be the same as your weather, as it can change very rapidly).

It will not go up a ramp into a taxi - when the front wheels hit the ramp, they lift the drive wheels off the ground; that means it can't be taken on trains, either. This, added to its very short range, means it is utterly useless for anything more ambitious than just popping to the shops. It is moderately dangerous on rough pavements, as the rear casters snag badly - an unwary user, descending a hill, could be tipped out unless travelling at a snail's pace.

On decent pavements it sounds and feels as if it's crossing a series of tram-tracks - the casters rattle and clatter atrociously and the whole thing vibrates, and the whole machine rattles enough to attract the attention of passers-by. The suspension is a bad joke. The HUGE problem is the range. Pride claim 25 miles. I know from long experience that this should realistically mean 12-15. I'm getting 8. That is just not acceptable.

I previously had a Pride Jazzy XL1120, same-size batteries, same claimed range. I got about 14 miles out of that, and I was a lot heavier then. There is no excuse for this chair, touted as a go-anywhere machine in the UK, in which Pride say that they got a test range of 33.76 miles, and that their claimed 25 miles should be achievable in normal use - I'm here to tell you that this is just not true. And it should be usable in wet weather when sold in a country where it rains A LOT! Otherwise, keep it out of the UK!

There is a comprehensive list of its defects, plus my attempts to get rid of the thing (I'm buying it on the Motability scheme). This could be a brilliant chair, but it was let down by a severe lack of forethought at the design stage. Oh, and build quality is less than wonderful, too. I've had it four months and in that time, I've spent a huge amount of money on taxi fares when I should have been able to use my chair - that's not something I can afford indefinitely.

  • I am a:Long Term Wheelchair User
  • Chair Pro's:Flexible, powerful, easily maneuvered, durable
  • Chair Con's:Requires technician with special programming module to make adjustments. Few adjustments are available to the end user
  • Best Used:Indoors and Outdoors
  • Recommend It:I would recommend this wheelchair

I have used this chair for about a year. The torque settings from the factory made it very difficult to control initially. Maximum torque settings on all speed ranges made operation very jerky plus the caster wheels seemed to added to this problem, particularly on carpeting and in tight spaces. When an obstacle was encountered and the joystick was released the chair would stop but resumed forward motion for a brief period of time before reversing when joystick was put in reverse.

In my judgment this is a potentially dangerous situation. Once the joystick is centered all previous motion commands should be canceled. This is not the case on the chair that I have. Perhaps the manufacture should consider making a firmware modifications to this product. It is recommended that the health care supplier reduce the torque settings on the lower speed ranges when setting this chair up for a new patient.

This has made my chair more manageable after this was done and my toes have appreciated it. The flexibility of this chair makes it ideal for my use. As the use of my arms and legs deteriorate due to ALS it can be modified to be controlled by other parts of my body.
